Workshop: Market and financing

Experts to be announced

Multiple Rooms

How does European mesh tech get a fair chance against big tech?

By 2035, a European procurement framework structurally favours mesh tech. Cities can procure jointly. European funds finance open source urban AI as a public good. A thriving market of European providers offers affordable alternatives at every scale.

Questions per time step

  • 2035: What is in place and working? Who holds the reins?
  • 2031: What agreements, standards or structures are already operational?
  • 2027: What has been started, tested or decided?
  • Before end of 2026: What must begin now - and who takes the initiative

Contribution to the declaration

What policy measures are needed at European and national level to give mesh tech a fair chance?

What do we work on in this workshop?

  • Revising European procurement rules so that small and open source providers have a fair chance.
  • Establishing a European urban AI fund for joint development of open urban tools.
  • Encouraging collaboration between cities for joint procurement and knowledge sharing.
